Best of 2018 – Wedding Photography Year in Review: As always, I seem to get to the end of the year in a bit of a wedding fug trying to put together a favourite selection of images through a haze of white dresses and, this year in particular, royal blue suits and tan brogues! Joking aside, I do really love looking through the year’s weddings and reminding myself of the fun that was had.
So…what about 2018? Well, it’s been another corker and although I’ve continued to shoot at the many exclusive use country houses, castles and barns we’re so lucky to have here in Gloucestershire, it has definitely been the year of the home wedding with many couples opting to take over their parent’s houses and gardens for a truly personal experience with hay bales and homemade beer putting in quite a few appearances.
Over the last twelve months I’ve also managed to take in a few new wedding venues which has been exciting and kept me on my toes, creatively: particular shout outs going to the unique Arnos Vale Cemetery in Bristol, Wellington Barn, Surrey’s Nonsuch Mansion, Rendcomb College and the magnificent Woodchester Mansion. Not forgetting old favourites though like the magnificent Berkeley Castle, Kingscote and Cripps Barns, Eastington Park, Tortworth Court and the magical Owlpen Manor which have all continued to live up to their reputations as being some of Gloucestershire’s finest wedding venues.
I was chatting to a guest only last week at a wedding and he asked me “have you ever had a nightmare wedding?” – I’m assuming Bridezilla’s, Groomzilla’s, Guestzilla’s, that kind of thing – and ten years in I’m still proud and relieved to say nope! However it did get me thinking…maybe I’ve just been blessed with hundreds of lovely couples over the years but I do believe that a lot of this (and I speak for all wedding photographer’s here) is down to planning and sheer hard work and enthusiasm on our part and on the day always, always wearing a smile no matter what. If it ain’t broke as they say…
Roughly 15,000 images made the final cut from this year’s thirty two weddings and this is a small selection of some of my favourite shots which I do hope you like too. Of course I couldn’t finish without a huge thank you going out to all of you lovely souls who put your faith in me to do what I do best and capture your wedding day as it really happened. I really did have a lot of fun too!
Happy New Year!
Ian
