Wedding Photography Osterley Park: I love Osterley Park. Having very fond childhood memories of picnics and conker collecting, I’m always thrilled to be asked to return to shoot a wedding as it really does feel like a second home, I know it that well. So when Mousmi and Robert asked if I would like to photograph their traditional English style wedding and their Hindu ceremony on the same day, of course I said yes!
I love the wonderfully chaotic wedding day mornings spent with an Indian bride and her family – so many people coming in and out, the food, the joy and in amongst it all are usually great opportunities for pictures. I always say that these mornings are not about award winning photographs but simply to do with capturing the raw energy and emotions of the occasion. With Hindu weddings I was once to told, you just have to “get in there”.
In next to no time, we were on our way to Osterley Park and once more I’d brought nothing but the best weather with me to help things along. Blue skies and glorious sunshine were the order of the day. Osterley House is pretty impressive even on the drabbest day but on a warm and sunny one, it looks spectacular and really is one of the finest National Trust houses for many a mile.
Mousmi looked absolutely stunning, the ceremony went off without a hitch and then it was off outside to the rear of the house for drinks and canapes on the lawn. We also used this time to get some lovely shots of the two of them using the house as a very impressive backdrop.
Now normally I’d be getting ready for the wedding breakfast and speeches at this point but we still had one more very important and wonderfully colourful ceremony to go! I’ve now shot about half a dozen Hindu weddings and I absolutely love their abundance of colour and their emotional intensity. And like I mentioned earlier, you really do have to get in there in order to capture the finer details and to not miss anything.
Post ceremony and with Robert and Mousmi now in traditional Hindu dress, we grabbed the opportunity to use the setting sun in front of the house to perfectly light the Maserati which Robert had hired for a couple of days and which the two of them were to lean so perfectly against. These two were a couple of real posers but what the heck, it’s your wedding day!
Before long, it was cake cutting… then first dance… then party time! I stayed for a good hour or so to get some fab shots of everyone killing it on the dance floor before saying my goodbye’s and heading off in to the darkness…
As always the team at Osterley Park had done a fabulous job creating another perfect wedding day. Robert and Mousmi were such a fun couple and very obviously adore each other and it was an honour being asked to capture their day for them. I hope you enjoy the selection of shots I’ve put together to give you a flavour of their brilliant wedding day…
