Hatherop Castle Wedding Photography: It’s always really nice to work at a new wedding venue so I was really looking forward to Ali and Phil’s wedding at Hatherop Castle, in the pretty little parish of Hatherop just outside Cirencester. We’d had great fun earlier in the year with our pre wedding shoot in nearby Quenington – home to Ali and Phil – and I was certainly looking forward to meeting these two again for the main event!
Ali is a real no frills fun type of person and just wanted the morning’s prep captured as naturally as possible, with my job simply to get the laughter and prosecco moments that seems to be the norm at these things. Ali had also chosen Chris Fordham to do her hair so, having worked with Chris at quite a few weddings now, I knew she was in very capable and creative hands. Her hair looked absolutely stunning and complemented her bone structure beautifully.
Weather wise, we knew we were in for a wet one but to be honest real, heavy, proper rain can be great for pictures so long as brollies are to hand which thankfully they were. There was one priceless moment in church during the ceremony…you know the moment when the vicar asks whether anyone has any reason why this couple should not be married…well, at that moment thunder roared, the church was hit by lightning and the lights went out – a brilliant moment that had everyone laughing that kind of relieved laugh you normally only get during plane turbulence!
A wet and rainy exit from the church and we were soon back at the castle for the wedding breakfast. After some great speeches (hats off to the Best Man who played a blinder by the way!) we were ready for the cake cutting and then on to their first dance which was delightfully tender and heartfelt and watched by some very keen young children lining the dance floor.
So with my first wedding at Hatherop Castle under my belt, it was time to say goodbye. I really enjoyed myself and especially love the shots I got in that golden twenty minutes when Ali and Phil were alone together without a care in the world. You can see a selection below.
Once upon a time…
