Avon Gorge Hotel Wedding Photographer: With their wedding at the Avon Gorge Hotel in Bristol taking place in the early part of next year, Fay and Tim had decided to get a little practice in for their big day with plenty of time to spare beforehand. Couples who book me for a pre wedding shoot often ask when is the best time to do it: near to their wedding day so they remember things more easily or around the time of booking to give them time to practice if they feel the need to. My advice is whatever feels best for them because they’ll have fun either way, it’ll be an invaluable learning experience and the confidence it gives as a result certainly won’t be forgotten either way.
Fay, a primary school teacher, actually taught my son last year (who really, really liked her by the way…) so when she asked if I was available to help with her wedding, of course I said yes. Fay and Tim had both chosen the Avon Gorge Hotel as their wedding venue so it seemed the perfect choice to use as a starting point and backdrop for our morning ahead, especially with the impressive Clifton suspension bridge minutes away. I never try to have too much of a plan beforehand as to exactly where we’ll take our shots instead choosing to see how people are feeling on the day and what they feel comfortable doing first before anything too adventurous is attempted…
So after a few loosener shots from the hotel’s terrace, we ventured out and headed for the bridge: a magnificent structure and great prop for our pictures. Fay and Tim were really keen to settle any nerves on this shoot and pretty soon they were in their stride with Fay soon forgetting I was the dad of Reuben Baker, aged 7 and a quarter! Clifton Bridge is very imposing and it can seem quite daunting choosing where and how to use it in the photographs but I think we managed to get a nice mix of shots in the end, both on and around it.
I’m really looking forward to Fay and Tim’s wedding next year and to getting some lovely pictures on the day as the venue is perfect for wedding photography. Be sure to return here again around March time next year for the main event!
Meanwhile, here is a selection taken from our morning together…
